Post 1: Free Topic

Welcome, in this free topic blog, I am going to talk about one of my actual hobbies, playing volleyball.

I started playing volley last year, in school, I learned a bit, but not that much. Nowadays, I am training with the people of the team of the campus Juan Gomez Millas, I can say that this is now more than a hobby, or that is what I want, I enjoy improving and I expect being able to play better and with better people.

Well… Volleyball is a sport in which participates six persons in each team (with its respective bench). In each side of the court, separated for a net at 2,42meters (men, 2,24 meters woman), there must be 1 setter, or the one that make the second touch (out of 3) and gives the pass to the spiker and 5 spikers, 2 of them attack from the left (Left side hitters), 2 from the middle (Middle blockers) and 1 from the right (Opposite hitter). Added to this, and this is a newer kind of player, there could be a libero, a player specialized in defense, which can entry to the court changing one of the players (usually middle blocker) whenever the team need it.

This gets a lot harder when it comes to the strategy and ways to play the game, to keep it easy, we are going to refer to the kind of players and positions, taking in count that some players must play in the front (near to the net) while others play at the back because of the rotation.

The Left side hitters, in the front must be able to spike and block, while at the back they must receive the ball correctly and cover the further back.

The setter must be precise at passing the ball and have a good vision of his own team, is like a captain, he takes most of the decisions of the game. He is the setter in the front or in the back, but he must know how to do everything.

The middle blocker is usually the taller, his main job is to block the enemy team’s attacks, and hit fast passes, when is in the back is usually changed for the libero.

The opposite is the right hitter, he usually is the main attacker of the team because he attacks in the front or in the back

Finally, the libero is usually a smaller player, that only plays at the back, he has the better skills to receive the ball and is like a second setter when the setter can’t reach the ball.

There is a lot more to tell about this game, but not all the people know the fact that there exist positions in volley haha. Well I am currently playing like an outside hitter, mostly left side hitter, but I have a small time playing so, I can eventually change position.

That is all for this blog, there is a lot more about this, and it is harder to learn that what people think, this sport is usually seen like a simple one, “just pass the ball over the net”, but you need to put in practice a lot of information.

What country i would like to visit? If someone asks me what country i would like to visit, actually, i have not an unique answer, but i can say that there are two categories for me:  fully natural beautiful places and cultural places. Although, i really like the natural beauty, i am really interested in history and cultures from the past, and if there is a place with a huge amount of culture behind a beautiful layer, for me Italy is the best choice. In Italy is placed the first capital of the Roman Empire, thus ancient architecture that I would love to see, like the famous “Roman coliseum” or the “Roman forum”, that is what i like, beauty and culture. There is also Venetia, who wouldn´t want to navy in the canal of Venetia in a boat? Also, I’m very interested in Italian food, the real pasta, pesto, etc. So, if I have the opportunity, I would go to Italia.

GPOY (not me)

Well, I am not a person who like photos too much, specially photos of me, but there is a good photo, of one of the best things in the world, a dog, a cute dog (look that nose). She, the cute Golden retriever of the photo is Kyra, she is my friend from like 6 years Since I born, we always had pets, always dogs which lived a lot with us, first were Mimi and patapata, them were mom and daughter, both typical Chilean kiltros, a bit of black, brown and white hair, medium size and just normal behaviors. The first one (Mimi) died when I was a child, I remember she drowned with something :(  , then was only patapata, which was with us until something like 2009, we suffered a lot when they gone :(( Kyra arrived at our house because one of my uncles know somebody who was gifting puppies, and asked to us if we want one of them, at the start it was a hard decision, dogs are a responsibility and all that kind of things, but at the end we decided to keep her, also two of my cous...

Postgraduate studies

As a student, when I think in my future, the first thing that comes to my mind is to keep studying, probably because I am used to. So, what I would study after ending my bachelor? I am studying anthropology, and planning to pick the archaeology specialty.  So, when I finish my anthropology-archaeology studies, I would like to delve into the archaeologist duty, because I really enjoy studying it and I like to finish what I do in the most completely way as possible, that means that I want to get all the knowledge related to archaeology, as far as possible. Also, there is the fact that in this moment, the postgraduate studies are very common, so thinking in future work activity, it may help me to get better Jobs. For doing what I want and what I may need, I want to get a master’s degree in archaeology in the University of Chile, and then, in a farther future, get a doctorate, in archaeology, probably in USA, mainly because that doctorate doesn’t exist in the university of Chil...
